Australian education expert, Dr Pete Goss says, “There is no story without data and no data without a story.” In 2024, we asked Dr Goss to conduct an independent evaluation of AVID’s impact on student outcomes in Australia. Most AVID schools in Australia have been implementing AVID for more than five years and some for over ten years. AVID’s use of evidence-informed and explicit teaching strategies is well documented. We wanted to test longitudinal data to see the impact of AVID professional learning using evidence-based strategies over time.
The sustained improvement in student outcomes is clear in schools that implement AVID with fidelity over time. The final Goss report is published providing the qualitative data stories that explain the sustained improvement in NAPLAN results at AVID Australia schools.
